When talking
isn't enough,
EMDR can help.

Some experiences stay with us — not as words, but as a tightness in the body, a reaction we can't talk our way out of. EMDR is a gentle, research-supported way to help your brain finally reprocess those moments, so they lose their grip.

The body keeps the score — but it can also learn to let go.

On the work of trauma therapy

What EMDR actually is.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's an evidence-based therapy, recognized by major health organizations, for healing the lingering effects of trauma and distressing life experiences.

When something overwhelming happens, the brain can struggle to file the memory away the way it does with ordinary events. Instead, it stays “stuck” — and small reminders in the present can bring back the same emotions, images, and body sensations as if it were happening now.

EMDR helps the brain do what it naturally wants to do: process and heal. Using gentle, back-and-forth (bilateral) stimulation while you briefly hold a memory in mind, EMDR helps that experience move from feeling raw and present to feeling like something that's truly in the past. You don't have to retell every detail, and you don't have to relive it. The goal is relief, at a pace your nervous system can handle.

What EMDR can help with

  • ·  Trauma and PTSD — including single events and longstanding, layered experiences
  • ·  Anxiety, panic, and a nervous system that feels stuck on “high alert”
  • ·  Betrayal trauma and relationship wounds
  • ·  Religious and spiritual trauma
  • ·  Painful childhood memories and old patterns that keep repeating
  • ·  Grief, loss, and life transitions that knocked you off center
  • ·  Low self-worth rooted in earlier experiences

What to expect

We always begin by getting to know each other and your history — there's no rush. Before any reprocessing, we'll build a foundation of safety and grounding skills so you feel resourced and in control. Only when you're ready do we begin the reprocessing itself, and we move at your pace, with plenty of room to pause. Many people are surprised by how much lighter a memory can feel once it's been processed.

My EMDR training

I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #138495) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC #14544), and I completed my EMDR training under Kim Johnson. I often integrate EMDR with Brainspotting and relational work, because no two people — and no two histories — are the same.
